Tom Bergeron Returns to the Spotlight—Underwater—with “Dancing with Sharks”

In a move no one saw coming but now everyone wants to see, former Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron is wading into totally new territory… the deep blue sea. This summer, Bergeron will helm a brand-new Shark Week special for the Discovery Channel titled Dancing with Sharks, and yes—it’s exactly what it sounds like.

Bergeron, who parted ways with ABC’s hit dance competition in 2020, hasn’t been in the hosting spotlight for a minute. But he’s back in a big, briny way. Instead of ballroom glitz, he’ll be trading sequins for scuba as expert divers pair up with actual sharks to perform choreographed underwater dance routines. That’s right—real sharks, real choreography, and real underwater elegance.

The routines will be crafted by a “world-class underwater choreographer,” promising a blend of grace, danger, and aquatic artistry. It’s a spectacle that feels part Cirque du Soleil, part marine documentary, and all parts “What on Earth are we watching—and why is it so amazing?”

Bergeron teased the upcoming special with a cheeky Instagram video, signing off with the pun-tastic line: “See you this summer. It will be fintastic.” Classic Tom—still got the charm, even in a wetsuit.

The special is sure to be a standout in this year’s Shark Week lineup, known for its mix of thrilling, bizarre, and educational content. And with a title as absurdly wonderful as Dancing with Sharks, audiences are guaranteed a wild underwater waltz like nothing they’ve seen before.

Will these sharks have rhythm? Will the divers keep their limbs? Will Tom Bergeron nail the sign-off while dodging dorsal fins? One thing’s for sure: Dancing with Sharks is poised to be the most talked-about splash of the summer.
