Phish Tops Rock Hall Fan Vote, But Will They Get In? Inductees Drop Sunday on “American Idol”
The people have spoken — and this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote winner is none other than Phish, the jam-band icons known for their devoted following and marathon live sets. With 330,000 votes, they’ve officially taken the fan crown for 2025.
Trailing close behind were Bad Company (281,000 votes), Billy Idol (260,500), Cyndi Lauper (237,000), and Joe Cocker (234,000), rounding out a Top 5 stacked with rock royalty and pop power.
The rest of the fan-voted Top 10, in order:
- Soundgarden
- Chubby Checker
- The Black Crowes
- Mariah Carey
- Joy Division / New Order
But here’s the twist: while the fan vote generates plenty of buzz, it only counts for one single ballot out of about 1,200 cast. That means fan support isn’t always a golden ticket to the Hall — just ask Dave Matthews Band, who won the fan vote in 2020 but didn’t get inducted until 2024.
Still, history shows that the fan favorite usually makes the cut, so Phish fans have good reason to tune in with hope.
This year’s official inductees will be announced live Sunday night on “American Idol”, in a star-powered crossover moment that blends legendary music with prime-time pop culture.
Whether your top pick is a punk pioneer, a synth-pop legend, or a jam band hero, Sunday promises to be a night of music history in the making.
