Frenchman’s 200-Mile Memory Lapse: Road Trip Mishap Leaves Wife Stranded at Gas Station

In an escapade that seems ripped from the pages of a slapstick comedy script, a gentleman from France has made headlines with a road trip blunder that’s the talk of the town. Over the weekend, this 62-year-old adventurer embarked on a long-haul journey from Paris to Morocco with his 60-year-old wife and their 22-year-old daughter in tow. But what started as an ordinary trip quickly turned into an extraordinary tale of forgetfulness.

Departing under the cover of night last Friday, the family hit the road in a bid to avoid the notorious Parisian traffic. With a drive time of approximately 27 hours ahead of them, they made several pit stops along the way. It was during one of these stops, around the bleary-eyed hour of 4:30 a.m., that our protagonist’s memory slipped into neutral.

After pulling into a gas station to refuel, he hit the road again, blissfully unaware that he had left his wife behind. It wasn’t until he had traveled a whopping 186 miles that the penny dropped. His wife, meanwhile, had been left to ponder her husband’s absent-mindedness for a staggering four hours.

The details are still murky. Had she been dozing in the back seat and slipped out unnoticed? Or had she stepped out for a quick break, only to find herself stranded? Regardless, the husband, now wide awake to his mistake, called the local police at around 8:30 a.m., pleading for assistance in locating the forgotten spouse.

Despite the initial panic, the authorities managed to track down the wayward wife via her cell phone. No word on why she didn’t simply call her husband herself—perhaps a dead battery or just the shock of it all?

While the police briefly considered if the husband might have left her behind intentionally, they concluded it to be nothing more than an honest-to-goodness goof. Although free from legal woes, the husband now faces a different kind of trial: the court of marital relations. One can only imagine the number of foot rubs and bouquets of apologies he’ll need to smooth things over.

In an act of chivalry—or perhaps self-preservation—he doubled back to the gas station, reunited with his patient wife, and they resumed their journey. Here’s hoping their vacation ahead is filled with relaxation and no further surprises!
