Ground Control to Katy Perry: Space Flight Ends in Kisses, Song Promises, and a Bezos Face-Plant

Katy Perry is officially out of this world — literally. The pop diva blasted off on a short space flight yesterday alongside journalist Gayle King and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, in what may have been the bougiest 10-minute adventure this side of the Kármán Line.

The all-female crew included a filmmaker, a former NASA scientist, and a research scientist. They soared just over 62 miles above Earth, right to the edge of the atmosphere. It wasn’t exactly Apollo 13, but if the mission was to flex hard and float a little, then mission accomplished.

Upon landing, Katy and Gayle pulled a full-on sci-fi cliché and kissed the ground — proving that even in 2025, some things never change. Katy declared,

“I feel super-connected to love.”

Rather than busting out “Firework” mid-flight, Katy belted “What a Wonderful World,” telling reporters:

“It’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy and a mirror. It’s about us… This is all for the benefit of Earth.”
(We’ll let you process that one.)

But wait — there’s more galactic drama: Katy also teased that she’s writing a song about the experience, which depending on how you felt about her last album, might sound more like a threat than a gift.

And if that wasn’t enough zero-gravity chaos, Jeff Bezos literally face-planted trying to greet the returning capsule. The richest man in space couldn’t even stick the landing. Classic.

Of course, not everyone’s reaching for the stars with applause. Olivia Wilde, Olivia Munn, and Emily Ratajkowski have all spoken out against the recent surge in celebrity space flights — calling the whole thing tone-deaf and disconnected.

But whether you’re cheering from Earth or cringing from orbit, one thing’s certain: Katy’s trip was loud, proud, and likely coming soon to a streaming playlist near you.
