Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025: Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, and Soundgarden In — But Phish Gets Snubbed
It’s official! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025 was revealed last night during American Idol — and the lineup is packed with heavy hitters, legends, and a little fan-fueled drama.
Here’s who’s making history this year:
Performers Category:
- Bad Company
- Chubby Checker
- Joe Cocker
- Cyndi Lauper
- Outkast
- Soundgarden
- The White Stripes
Musical Influence Award:
- Salt-N-Pepa
- Warren Zevon
Musical Excellence Award:
- Thom Bell (legendary R&B songwriter/producer)
- Nicky Hopkins (pianist and organist extraordinaire)
- Carol Kaye (bassist and Wrecking Crew powerhouse)
Ahmet Ertegun Award:
- Lenny Waronker, the industry titan behind Warner Bros. Records and co-founder of DreamWorks Records.
But not everyone’s popping champagne.
Despite winning the fan vote with over 330,000 votes, Phish didn’t make the cut. And Billy Idol, who finished third in the fan poll, also got left out. (Seriously — who do we have to call to get “White Wedding” the respect it deserves?)
It’s a good reminder that the fan vote only counts for one ballot out of approximately 1,200 total. Historically, the fan favorites usually sneak in, but this marks just the second time ever that the top fan vote winner got snubbed — the first being Dave Matthews Band in 2020 (and they eventually made it in 2024).
As for this year’s celebration, the Induction Ceremony will take place November 8th in Los Angeles. You can stream it live on Disney+, catch it on Hulu the next day, and watch a special broadcast on ABC later this year.
It’s going to be a night full of riffs, rebellion, and recognition — even if a few names are missing from the guest list.
